Dental Implants

At Cobb Family Dentistry, we have modern tooth replacement solutions to replace missing teeth. Many of our patients prefer dental implants to restore their smiles.

Dental implants are the gold standard of tooth replacement because they permanently restore your smile’s function and appearance. With our help, you can experience the joy and comfort of having a healthy, beautiful smile that lasts for many years to come.

How Missing Teeth Can Affect Your Oral Health

Our teeth serve an essential purpose, and each has its own distinctive function. One or more missing teeth can negatively affect your comfort, oral health, and confidence.

Also, a missing tooth can lead to:

  • Tooth migration and misalignment, which will disrupt your bite
  • Discomfort and excessive wear on your remaining teeth
  • Degeneration of healthy bone tissue in the jaw

When you have an incomplete smile, normal daily activities can be a hassle and ultimately impact your quality of life. Tooth loss makes eating, speaking, and socializing challenging and uncomfortable. A dental implant that replaces a missing tooth, or several missing teeth, promotes better oral health and wellness.

How Dental Implants Work

A dental implant is a replacement titanium tooth root your dentist surgically places in the jawbone. When the jaw heals, we top the implant with a dental crown or bridge to restore your mouth’s natural function, appearance, and comfort.

Dental implants are the next best thing to your natural teeth, and they become a natural part of your denture structure through a process called osseointegration. You no longer have to worry about slippage or shifting, as denture wearers often do.

It functions exactly like a natural tooth root and prevents the deterioration of the bone that often occurs after losing a tooth.

The Dental Implant Process

Dr. Reid Popple has extensive knowledge and experience in high-quality implant dentistry. Because of his expertise, Dr. Popple can complete the dental implant placement procedure right here in our Mableton, GA dental office.

Before the Procedure

Using our CBCT 3-D x-ray, 3Trios intraoral scanner, and Sprintray 3-D Printer, we can pre-plan every implant procedure before the patient arrives at their appointment. These technologies ensure we place the implant in the best possible position, with superior predictability and precision.

Just like with any dental treatment, there is no room for guesswork. Modern dental techniques and technology help us minimize the surgery time and potential postoperative issues. We also 3-D print a surgical guide we use during the procedure to ensure every implant surgery goes as smoothly as possible.

During the Procedure

We start by numbing the implant site with a strong local anesthetic. For patients who desire a more relaxing experience, we can offer a neck pillow, music or Netflix, or mild sedation. Dr. Popple then gently places the implant in the jawbone and provides the patient with detailed instructions on aftercare and upcoming appointments for checking your progress.

Recovering from a Dental Implant Procedure

Healing time varies from patient to patient. The entire process can take anywhere between three to twelve months. However, patience is key because the implant needs time to establish its utmost strength and stability. Countless patients have told us that the wait has been well worth it because they now have gorgeous smiles designed to last for life!
